Two years ago a seemingly normal six-story building was completed in downtown Seattle. What’s abnormal, however, is in that two year span that modern-looking building has produced 60% more energy than it has consumed. That remarkable achievement has garnered the Bullitt Center a Living Building Certification.

The Living Building Challenge pushes builders and architects alike to create structures that actively aid in improving the environment. This is a far more difficult certification to achieve than the current LEED standards. As such, the Bullitt center is likely the most efficient building in the nation, likely consuming 50% less energy than the next leading building.
